The Count climbs to the top of the Sesame Street lamppost. He wants to count all the lights on the street when they come on. The cast sings "What's the Name of That Song?". Oscar and the cast demonstrate "none," "some," and "all" with their emotions. At first, no one is happy but then, David and Maria smile and giggle. Others break out into laughter until, finally, everyone is happy. Oscar even laughs from inside his can. Happiness and laughter are contagious! It is dark now. The Count is still up on the lamppost sign where he watches everyone turn off their lights. He counts 9 lights and waits for the street light to turn off. Luis tells him the streetlight remains on until daylight. The Count sleeps on the lamppost.

Everyone on Sesame Street is playing an alphabet game by holding up the letter that their name starts with. The get almost all the way through, and then Big Bird realizes that no one's name starts with the letter "Z." Gordon, Susan, Maria, David and Luis demonstrate the number two. Meanwhile, Bob plays a game with Bert and Ernie where he asks for examples of things everyone does. Snuffy plays London Bridge while looking for Big Bird. Oscar shows Gordon his new hat and the Count shows up to count some blocks. Later Gordon and Susan meet Super Automatic Machine, known as Sam the Robot who believes machines are better than people.

While Big Bird is trying to water some flowers, he meets a big brown creature who introduces himself as Mr. Snuffleupagus. Mr. Snuffleupagus is feeling sad, so Big Bird tries to cheer him up by inviting him to help water the flowers, which he does by spraying water out of his snuffle. Big Bird runs to tell everyone about his new friend, but they are skeptical that the Snuffleupagus really exists. Big Bird brings them to where Mr. Snuffleupagus was, but he is gone. Everyone leaves telling Big Bird it was probably just his imagination, but later when Mr. Snuffleupagus returns, Big Bird announces happily that he knows that he's real.

When Big Bird climbs into his nest, he accidentally steps on a letter J. Everyone assures him that it's okay, it was just a mistake. Meanwhile, Bob gets an important message for Oscar the Grouch: His grandmother, Granny Grouch, is coming to visit. Granny Grouch gives Oscar a big kiss, but Oscar does not like it very much. Granny knows all her grandchildren do not like her kisses, but she kisses anyway. Even though they cannot agree on kisses, Oscar and his Granny can enjoy a nice hot cup of mud together.
